Just for something different this week and keeping in mind many of you are still on holidays, we have put a list together of things to do on the Sunshine Coast over the summer holidays – some of the activities are FREE, and all are FUN!
- Climb Mount Coolum – if you haven’t already done this, put this at the top of your list. It is a relatively easy climb for most ages and fitness levels, take some water with you, and go at your own pace. When you get to the top, just savour that spectacular 360 degree view!
- Golf – we are spoilt for choice here on the Sunshine Coast with many beautiful, world-class golf courses and a great climate to make a day on the green more enjoyable. There is a golf course right in Mount Coolum, and another two close by – Twin Waters and Maroochy River. The Maroochy River Golf Club also has a fabulous mini-golf course that is very family-friendly.
- Fishing – whether out on a boat or just sitting on the banks of the Maroochy River, or one of our many waterways, fishing is for all ages and stages of life, and is one of our most popular pastimes. Who cares if you hook one or not; just relax and soak up the sunshine & fresh air.
- Bushwalking – Along the coast and the hinterland there is a plethora of state forests and national parks that have walking trails, many are graded to suit ability and fitness level. Get out there amongst nature – walk under the canopy of ancient rainforests, swim in the swimming holes, and what about those waterfalls!
- Movies – When the heat gets too much and the kids need a break from ‘active’ activities, head to the air-conditioned comfort of one of the cinema complexes and catch the latest summer blockbuster.
- Shopping – Retail therapy isn’t for everyone, but if you do enjoy shopping, you have a wonderful choice here from major shopping centres through to the more boutique style outlets of some of the coastal and hinterland villages.
- Eumundi Markets – You must get to the famous Eumundi markets, either on a Saturday or Wednesday morning. There is street entertainment, food vans, and an expansive array of market stalls, that literally sell everything you can think of. It’s an experience not to be missed.
- Beach – This is a no-brainer, and you have so many to choose from. Just remember to slip, slop, slap – the sun is fierce, and nothing spoils a holiday more than sunburn!
- Hinterland Drive – Take the family for a drive up to the Blackall Range and meander through the villages of Mapleton, Montville, and Maleny. Stop and have lunch at one of the many eateries or taverns, and there’s also some quaint little artisan shops and galleries to explore. It’s a very scenic drive showcasing magnificent coastal views.
- Australia Zoo – it’s a big day out, but well worth it, to get up close and personal with animals we never generally come into contact with, and a great mixture of fun and education at the same time.
We extend our warmest Christmas wishes to you and your loved ones. Whatever you decide to do, be safe, relax, and enjoy!
